McMinnville City Guide

Downtown McMinnville

Located halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga, McMinnville is home to a host of outdoor recreational activities along with stunning views, local restaurants, shops, and plenty of southern hospitality.  Whether you are just passing through or moving to our community,  our local favorites will keep you coming back for more.

There are a handful of local restaurants that you will always find buzzing in town, from vegetarian fare to a classic southern BBQ or a quick cup of coffee with a treat, we have it covered.  If you love to catch breakfast on the weekends, the Cumberland Biscuit company is the place to stop in and fill your tank before a day on the river!  For a lighter and sweeter selection, stop in at Vanilla Bean bakery.  We highly recommend a cinnamon roll or the morning glory muffin if they have them on the menu for the day.  For those craving something fresh and healthy, lunch at Juicy's Cafe never disappoints and is a go-to lunch destination for the MMS office.  Another beloved lunch staple of the community is Depot Bottom which has been featured in an episode of Tennessee Crossroads.  If you want lunch like your granny made, this is where you go!  Favorite dinner options include Colins River BBQ which serves up local brews and house-smoked meats along with traditional southern sides. For the best pizza and salads in town, Begonias is where you will find us.  Their wood-fired pizza is amazing as well as their handmade fresh pasta.  Mexican food is a favorite here at MMS and our favorite spot to hit up is Cinco de Mayo taqueria on S. Chancery street.  We highly recommend the pico de gallo and the chunky guac to go along with your tacos (you'll also want to call ahead!).

If activity is what you seek, McMinnville is not short on options for both adults and children.  Our location offers an abundance of hiking trails both in town and within a short driving distance. Stone door is a local favorite with stunning views.  When the weather turns warm you can find plenty of opportunities to float down the river.  If you don't own your own kayaks, Smooth Rapids offers rentals and is a great place to grab a bite to eat before or after a day on the river.  McMinnville's newly renovated Milner Recreation center is a great resource for adult tennis leagues, classes, youth recreational sports, summer swimming, and a great exercise resource.  Our local running store, Mad Cow Running Company offers organized running groups to support the community in its running and fitness goals.  If a game of golf is what you seek, Willow Brook Gold club is open to the public and just a short drive from McMinnville.  With stunning views in every direction, hitting the open road for a bike ride is also a popular activity on the weekends among locals.  Finding an outdoor activity you can enjoy will never be a problem in our beautiful town, even if just a leisurely walk down the greenway and along the river is what you are seeking.

Just outside of McMinnville, a short 20-minute drive to Rock Island puts you in the middle of camping, hiking, boating and river activities along with some fun local eateries.  Rock Island Trolly stop is a repurposed trolly car, turned ice cream & dessert stop with a selection of magical creations.  For a day on the river, Cotton's Marina is a great starting point with lunch and dinner options at the newly opened Damvue Daughters restaurant.  If you are looking for something a little more eclectic, the Foglight Foodhouse has been a favorite for quite some time.  The short hiking trails at Rock Island State Park are a great way to spend a day outdoors.  We suggest the Blue Hole trail for a little adventure and an opportunity for water play.

We love our little town and are fortunate to have all of these resources and more in our back yards as well as the beauty that surrounds us at every turn.  From outdoor activities to the arts at the Park Theatre and events like Main Street Live during the summer, we have many opportunities to spend time together as a community and we are thankful for all the hard work that goes into every aspect of our town to create a truly special place to live and play.
